11 July 2007 - Setsquare

We have added a new Stats page to provide external users not on the DWC network a general idea of how much data the DWC network carries on an hourly basis.

16 June 2007 - Setsquare

It has been some time since the last bit of news on the site but this time its very good news. We have finally got a highsite setup on the Bluff with decent coverage to most of the Berea, Glenwood, Glenmoore, Umbilo and Montclair. The site is linked to the rest of DWC with our fastest backbone yet operating at over 60mbit real TCP throughput. The site will be outfitted shortly with a 5ghz sector antenna which will allow us to cover quite a large area. We also have a 2.4ghz antenna currently setup for any legacy users on older equipment to connect to. The site is based on PC hardware as most of our highsites are giving us more than enough cpu power and expandability options. The good thing about this site is the PC hardware is housed inside away from the elements so we saved on the enclosure costs and will make maintenance easier.

For pictures of the Bluff highsite install. For the pictures of the upgraded equipment at Tollgate check here.

Many thanks to Global Z-Data for generously donating some old PC hardware for the use at the highsite.

25 September 2006 - Setsquare

Over the last two weeks we have been rather busy setting up two of the most important links DWC has seen in a long time. The following links were recently setup, the one is from our highsite in town to tollgate bridge area where we are lucky to have a new highsite thanks to Wolfsaibot. The other link is from tollgate to Izibizi who is in Dawncliffe. These links are both running on the 5Ghz band and are performing really well and it has been a great success as now the Durban central part of DWC is connected to the DWC members in westville.

For more info about hwo the installs went and some pics of the progress you can checkout these links, DBN4 install Tollgate install Tollgate upgrade Pictures

03 September 2005 - Setsquare

We finally have our first highsite up and running with 2 WRT54G's in AP mode using the Frefunk firmware. Many thanks must go to Sandhir Kooblal for letting us put our first highsite on one of his buildings and organising some of his friends to help us out, I am sure they learned allot. We are still in the process of fully testing the AP's and aligning the antennas, we originally thought the sectorals we had would cover the selected area but have found out they cover even a smaller degree but will sort that out soon.

Here are some pictures of the installation.

My apologies for the lack of updates recently, but we're back in business now ;D

We finally have our first set of links up!!, namely Setsquare and Shane, as well as Brett and Neil. Hopefully this will be the start of some growth for us, so congrats guys.

Lastly, could the owner of the MAC address (00:12:F0:92:66:23) please drop Skydog a mail. We would just like to get an idea of who you are, since you obviously know enough about us to have the SSID of one of our links *wink* *wink*...

Thanks go to Paul for his talk on RF and emerging Wireless technologies. I, for one, found it well presented and very informative ;D. I think it will be good for us to have someone with his expertise on board...

Razer0 has also given us a new How To, sharing a much easier method for getting your co-ordinates for NodeDB. Ta Razer0 ;D

Our next meeting is on the 14th of June, where Skydog will be talking to us about "Privacy & Wireless security and encryption".

PLEASE NOTE : Do not be scared of our topics, as all our talks are aimed at those that dont know anything. So if you say to yourself : "I dont know anything about that", that is not a valid excuse since you are who we are aiming to educate :)

25 April 2005 - Tempest

The meetings page has been updated for next month, so check it out here.

DWC has managed to get Linksys WRT54G's (a wireless router/AP) at R750, so if you would like to order one, click here to send Skydog a mail and place your order !

We can also get our hands on antenna's, so just send Skydog a mail with what you are looking for, and we can then inform you of what options you have.

04 April 2005 - Tempest

DWC would like to thank Marc (Rhino) for his donation of a patch antenna to our group. I am sure it will be put to good use ;)

We would also like to wish him "Bon Voyage", and good luck in his new job on the open seas. Seeya in 8 months :D

Welcome to the new look DWC site!

The plea for a webmaster has been taken up by me. I have spent quite a bit of time and sanity on the new look, so I dont want ANY hate mail, mkay ? :P

Big thanks go to Webstorm for giving us free hosting, as well as Brett Swann for the banner art.

I know it looks pretty bare at the moment, but news and any updates to pages will be posted here, so keep checking.

Next meeting on the 12th of April, check meetings for more info...

The more people the better, so please put yourself on NodeDB. See here for details. Even if you are only vaguely interested, just select "interested" as your status when asked.

Our goal is to have 50 people on NodeDB by the end of April, so if you in Durban area please tell your mates...

I will also be posting stats for the web site at the end of each month starting now, so we can monitor DWC's growth

Please could you report broken links here just incase I missed any when I converted the site. There should not be any, but just in case :)
