Webmaster

  • Keep the old Wiki - we still use some of it? DJ - I say keep all old content. however trash the entire site and start over with a fresh look and add old content if relevant
  • A fresh Web 2.0 look and feel.
  • Make sure the website and all related data is backed up nightly! We don't want to loose the wiki again.
  • Setup a JAVA based IRC applet on the website.
  • Work Closely with the Communication & Events Coordinator to keep the website up to date
  • Maintain a DWC Facebook Group
  • Make sure people upload photos etc of installs to the gallery on WUG.ZA.NET
  • "Rebrand" DWC - possibly a new logo is needed - Core Team to vote.

Communication & Events Coordinator

  • Maintain a database of sorts and send out bulk email communications to members and interested parties.
  • Deal with first-line queries - "how do I get connected?" etc - refer people to tutorials
  • Maintain the DWC Twitter account - send out info on network status, meetings etc.
  • Organise venues for meetings
  • Organise braais and socials
  • Make sure that people take photos of all installs and that these are uploaded to the gallery
  • Organise gaming tournaments etc
  • Maintain an SMS database + facility - for use to remind people of meetings - DJ may be able to get sponsor for bulk SMS
  • Maintain an emergency contact system - SMS etc.



Minister of Noob Education :)

  • Create basic tutorials for new members - how to get connected, who to speak to, where to buy kit etc. - include photos
  • Create technical tutorials - how to setup Nanostations, Mikrotik etc. Use Video, pictures wherever possible.
  • Interact with end-users of the tutorials to make sure they are suitable and cover people's questions.
  • Write articles of interest to help new members understand why we take certain decisions - i.e. why use short LMR, why use Mikrotik, why use POE etc.
  • Work closely with the "Network Growth" role
  • Write network policies, basic code of conduct etc.
  • Hold occasional open training sessions (either online or at a venue) to teach people how to setup links - DJ- Happy to assit here

Highsite management

  • Upgrade highsite firmware - DJ
  • Troubleshoot routing issues etc - DJ
  • Troubleshoot performance on the network
  • Ensure best possible uptime at all sites by deploying redundant power solutions etc.
  • Create specs for new highsites as required
  • Project manage the setup of new highsites
  • Interact with highsite owners - maintain a good working relationship
  • Respond when highsites go down - go out to sites and get them running again if needed.
  • Keep the community informed of progress during highsite outages etc
  • Establish redundant links wherever possible to boost the stability of the network.
  • Arrange and perform routine maintenance (software and physical) on all highsites to ensure they stay running.

DWC Intranet Environment

  • Ensure the uptime and accessibility of FFS
  • Ensure the uptime and accessibility of DWC Tube
  • Develop a web based portal / Intranet Page landing for DWC with a listing of all the services etc
  • Create a buy/sell page for members - computers/old kit etc.
  • Ensure the uptime of the internal IRC Server
  • Setup and maintain a DNS system for DWC - look first at the WUG.ZA.NET system and see if it can't be integrated into our network (suitability?)
  • Setup email facilities for the DWC members - on request, people can ask for a *.dwc.za.net email address. The server must be accessible over DWC.
  • Setup spare servers and SAN that Boogeyman & Skydog arranged - they must run VMWARE / XEN and be available for others to use to host services for the DWC network.
  • Powers donated us a network cabinet - it is with Spore atm - setup cabinet for DWC Servers at a hosting location
  • Setup and maintain a VOIP system for DWC.

Inter-Wug Relations & 3rd Party Expansion Followup

  • Establish and maintain relationships with other WUGS
  • Establish and maintain VPNs to other WUGS
  • Arrange for interested members of other WUGS to skype in for our meetings / watch live streaming
  • Promote services between DWC and other WUGS
  • Talk to Skydog and find out about several opportunities we have to ask for donations of wireless kit from various companies etc.
  • Investigate the possibility of peering with MetroFibre and municipal libraries etc

Network Growth

  • Maintain a test kit for loan out to new members
  • Actively search for new links using WUGPLOTTER - contact people who can link up and get them to start talking to eachother. Refer them to tutorials to get going.
  • Actively search for new highsites to promote network growth + establish relationships with people to setup new highsites.
  • Go out to sites with new members and help them get going (organize occasional "install-fest") to teach people how to setup links



Network Documentation & Allocation of IP Addresses

  • Maintain spec of all highsites so we know what kit we have
  • Maintain IP Allocations
  • Develop a system to automate the allocation of IP ranges
  • Setup and maintain an SNMP Montoring system - i.e. Cacti to keep track of bandwidth on the network. - DJ - can assit with this
  • Sort out the WUGPLOTTER system - get documentation and IP allocations up to date.
  • Maintain the wiki
  • Setup a SYSLOG server to capture all SNMP events from highsites into a database. - DJ can assit
  • Be "the backups guy" - make sure that everyone else makes backups of all essential services - irritate them to make sure it happens.
  • Be responsible for collecting and backing up photos and video if DWC installs
