Here are some links that we think are pretty usefull with respect to the Durban area, as well as Wifi and telecommunications in general.

Firmware

http://www.openwrt.org - The best firmware out there at the moment, only use this if you are fully comfortable with the Linux CLI. It is modular based so you can customise it in any way you want. http://www.freifunk.net - Based on the OpenWrt core this firmware has an easy to use Web GUI which makes it simple to configure, this firmware is specifically designed for mesh networking and has OLSR built in. http://wrt54g.thermoman.de - This is the unofficial version of Sveasofts Talisman firmware, read the site to find out why Sveasoft is the DEVIL! http://www.dd-wrt.org - If you need a firmware for general use as an access point with a HUGE feature set and a very nice GUI this is the one to go for.

Wifi

http://www.wug.za.net - Central Point for all Wireless User groups in South Africa http://www.jawug.za.net - The Johannesburg Area Wireless User Group - A group in Johannesburg who have formed a Wifi network across the greater Johannesburg area. http://www.ctwug.za.net - Cape Town Wireless User Group - A group in Cape Town who have formed a Wifi network in the Cape Town area.

Telecoms""

http://www.mybroadband.co.za - Good website for ADSL and other "broadband" users. Also has a great forum here. http://www.hellkom.co.za - However you feel about Telkom, just have a look at this site. It presents the cold hard facts, as well as letting you blow off some steam ;) If you would like a link to your site on this page, or if you know of a good link (as long as you think its relevant), please email the info to the webmaster.

Hardware

http://www.routerboard.com - RouterBoard Hardware http://www.mikrotik.com - Mikrotik Router OS site

Durban

http://www.durban.gov.za - Government site for Durban. Has a great GIS maps section here.

Maps

http://www.streetmaps.co.za - A local site that can be used as an alternative to google maps.
